Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve

The Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve is a privately-owned nature reserve that covers an area of about 1 600 hectares. It’s situated in the pristine Cradle of Humankind area which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and famous for its significant archaeological finds. The nature reserve is about 40 kilometers north-west of Johannesburg and 60 kilometers west of Pretoria.

Bothongo Wondercave

This incredible cave system located on the nature reserve was discovered by Italian miners in 1898. It’s the third-largest chamber in South Africa, after Cango Caves and Sudwala Caves. The ancient cave is millions of years old and famous for its impressive stalactites and stalagmites, some as tall as 15 meters.

Please note

To visit the Bothongo Wondercave you will need to be reasonably fit as there are 87 steps down to the entrance of the cave. An elevator takes you a further 18 meters to the large cave chamber.
